Cedar waxwings visit Oasis Valley sporadically throughout the year, more in fall and winter. They breed in northen states, and in Nevada only in the Ruby Mountains, according to the Atlas of the Breeding Birds of Nevada (Floyd et al. University of Nevada Press, Reno, 2007).
^A juvenile with somewhat streaky breast.
^Two in an elm. Waxwings like to eat the nutlets of Russian olive (Eleagnus angustifolius) trees in oasis Valley, an introduced plant.
^A waxwing sits in a cottonwood in fall. They come to Oasis Valley in flocks of two to a dozen, sometimes just one or two.
