In Oasis Valley Killdeers hang out along the Amargosa River in areas with less vegetation: saltgrass flats, little alkaline playas, gravel bars left dry after floods, and pool edges. I have seen them most months of the year, but less in winter. Although I have seen no evidence yet, they may breed here. Nesting occurs in Ash Meadows an hour to the south, as well as many other places in Nevada. Killdeers are common all year in adjacent Death Valley (Inyo County, California), where they breed as well.
